Natural Effective Support for Acne!  Let’s look at the facts…

Acne is no longer the incurable problem it was 30 years ago. In the past, acne caused profound suffering for many people.  Acne is a skin condition which may occur on the face, neck, chest and back.  It is also more prevalent, estimated that up to 80% of Aussies suffer from acne at some stage in their lives.

Simply put, acne is associated with blockage of the sebaceous gland ducts. Sebum continues to be produced by these glands forming comedones (blackheads and whiteheads). These often become inflamed to form papules, pustules and cysts.  But what causes these block ducts?

There are many things however, that cause acne…

Several hormones such as testosterone, androgens, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS), as well as insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-I) have been linked to changes leading to acne. Still the exact mechanism remains a mystery.  Every hormone effects every other hormone – when one is out of balance, it effects every other hormone.

The most interesting theory comes from Dr. Loren Cordain (author of The Paleo Diet). In his paper Dr. Cordain explains how swings in blood sugar levels lead to:

  • Increased turnover of skin cells. Meaning cells die faster and new ones grow to replace them. This means there are more dead skin cells in the skin pores, causing blockages.
  • Skin cells failing to separate after death. Normally skin cells separate after death so they can be easily pushed out. This is controlled by a hormone called IGFBP-3. Blood sugar problems bring down IGFBP-3 levels. So more skin cells remain together and block the skin pores.
  • Increased oil (sebum) production.
  • Overgrowth of P. acnes bacteria in the skin pores (linked to 40% of chronic back pain, by the way!!)
  • Inflammation of the blocked pore.  It has also been found that  there is insulin inside the blocked pores – allowing growth of other infections besides P. acnes.

Problems with blood sugar metabolism are caused by insulin resistance, which is a result of wrong diet and lifestyle habits.

Insulin resistance

Insulin is the hormone that takes the glucose (sugar) from the bloodstream and escorts it into cells. In people with insulin resistance cells are resistant to insulin. Therefore the pancreas has to release more insulin to bring down the blood glucose levels. Insulin is closely related to the hormones that have been linked to acne. More insulin means more of the hormones that have been linked to acne.

Closely related to insulin resistance is a condition called chronic, low-intensity inflammation.

Inflammation is the body’s response to injury. This is true whether the injury results from a cut or bruise or an immune system reaction. As the immune system reacts to an invader it also damages the nearby cells and causes insulin resistance in them.

In case of an acute inflammation this is not a problem as it only happens in a limited area, such as is the case with cuts and bruises.

Chronic or systematic inflammation is entirely different matter. Inflammation turns chronic when the offending substance (such as chemicals and toxins) or pathogen (for example bacteria and virus) persists in the body. Inflammation turns systematic when the circulatory or lymphatic systems spread the offending agent all over the body.

So, as you can imagine, we work with acne in the following ways:

  1. working with the body to reduce inflammation
  2. finding the causes of inflammation our clients
  3. using anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial external products that SUPPORT the skins natural immunity
  4. using products to prevent scar tissue
  5. working with diet to be less inflammatory
  6. finding underlying infections – there are often co-infections in those with chronic acne.

Lyme Disease: Natural Support for your Immune System, Symptoms & General Health

Is Lyme Disease here in Australia?

Absolutely.  Over the past few years we’ve seen clients who have travelled to the U.S. to be diagnosed since it’s so challenging to find a diagnosis here in Australia.  About 5 years ago we started looking into the treatments within natural therapies to help to get Lyme Disease to a manageable state in the body (for some people it becomes a chronic, incurable conditions that takes years to reverse) creating chronic pain, sensitivities, fatigue and inability to function.

Symptoms of Lyme Disease

One of the major problems with Lyme disease is that it often looks like so many other conditions, and seemingly unrelated symptoms in the body. Obviously these symptoms could range from things like depression (therefore treated incorrectly with anti-depressants) to fatigue (and be treated with B Vitamins).  Neither of these treatments will hurt, but nor will they get to the root cause of the problems.  There are several types of Lyme Disease known to exist in Australia.  We use a combination of therapies to help the body start ‘recognising’ these infections, rather than allowing them to live happily in our bodies.

Core symptoms

  • Can’t think clearly (‘brain fog’)
  • Poor concentration
  • Poor memory
  • Swollen Glands – particularly neck
  • Sore Throat
  • Facial pain
  • Jaw and neck pain around the throat
  • Chest wall pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chronic cough
  • Muscle pains
  • Muscle spasms – usually with twitching
  • Muscle cramps
  • Eye pain – particularly with movement and usually behind or above the eyes
  • Sensitivity to bright light
  • Sensitivity to loud noise
  • Smell and taste changes
  • Intermittent facial muscle weakness and muscle twitching
  • Headache
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Alcohol sensitivity

Common symptoms

  • Fevers – at night
  • Abdominal pain
  • Period pain, irregularity – unexplained
  • Rapid beating of the heart or irregularity
  • Pins and needles feeling
  • Facial paralysis (Bell’s Palsy)
  • Visual difficulties
  • Slurring of the speech, wrong words, or mispronunciation
  • Word block

Less common symptoms

  • Tinnitus – ringing in the ears
  • Vertigo, a tumbling form of dizziness
  • Dizziness or spinning
  • Motion sickness
  • Imbalance
  • Gait disturbance
  • Fevers – in daytime
  • Air hunger
  • Head congestion
  • Arthritis or joint pains (not muscle pain)
  • Dental pain
  • Genital pain
  • Bladder irritability dysfunction
  • Bowel irritability dysfunction
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Menstrual disturbances
  • Pelvic pain or cramps
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea

More general symptoms

  • Fainting or near faint
  • Tremors
  • Confusion
  • Difficulty with concentration, reading
  • Disorientation: getting lost, going to wrong places
  • Memory loss
  • Forgetfulness, poor short term memory, poor attention
  • Mood changes
  • Irritability
  • Depression
  • Depression
  • Early morning waking

HCG Weight Loss Linked with Better Hormonal Control, Less Stress, Less Depression and Less Anxiety!

HCG Helps with Hormonal Control!!  Lose 10-20 kilos in 40 days!

There’s a lot of interesting information out there about HCG.  We’ve been using it clinically for 2 years with VLA Bioimpedance Analysis Screenings & Insulin Resistance Testing and find it amazing.  It works correctly for long-term weight loss when the plan is followed correctly!  We also find that higher fat mass is linked with stress hormones so unexpected benefits include less anxiety, less depression and less stress!

There are many positive impact of HCG has on all of our hormones as our weight reduces.  When our BMI is over 30 our fat mass becomes the number one hormone producing tissue in our bodies – controlling so many things:

*  Supports fertility for both men and women – losing 6+ kilos can increase chances of falling pregnant by a whopping 40%.  IVF is only successful in around 5% of cases.  The combination of weight loss and IVF definitely improves outcomes for our clients.

*  feel good hormones – that’s why weight is directly linked with anxiety, depression, stress, frustration and irritability

*  Pain & Inflammation:  when our BMI is over 30 we are constantly releasing inflammatory hormones – our body then stores fluid to dilute these hormones.  Eventually it raises our BP and this can be the first indication of inflammation.

*  Weight is also linked to immune system issues.  When our feel good hormones are down and our stress levels are high (BMI over 30 does this) then our immune system takes its cue from the hormones and starts to shut down.  Like a petulant teenager, the immune system says ‘you don’t want to be here? me neither!’

*  Blood Sugar Balancing:  we’ve found pre-diabetic/diabetic clients can come off their medication (not Type 1) after HCG.  Because fat mass controls so many hormones in the body, insulin resistance is a huge problem upsetting sleep, energy, stress levels and other hormones.  HCG often takes people back into normal cholesterol levels as well as less insulin resistance!

*  Energy Improvement:  because fat mass increases adrenalin and stress hormones, it tends to switch off/down our thyroid and energy production pathways.  As the fat mass reduces energy generally improves – especially when combined with detoxification supplements throughout the process.

Always find out what supplements will be most appropriate for you throughout the HCG process.  Phone consultations available at New Leaf.
