THE HCG FAT-LOSS PROGRAM
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
1. What are HCG homeopathic drops, and how do they work?
The HCG homeopathic drops are known to suppress hunger and when used in conjunction with a 500 calorie plan your body starts to use its fat as its energy source without losing muscle. We have proved this clinically with bio-impedance analysis throughout the programme.
2. Is HCG safe?
HCG is extremely safe, there are no current side effects of the homeopathic drops.
3. If HCG works so well for weight loss, why don’t pregnant women lose weight?
Because HCG mobilizes fat to be used in other parts of the body where needed during pregnancy. When a woman is pregnant they often sustain a high calorie diet in most cases. HCG only works for weight loss in conjunction with the 500 calorie regime.
4. Will my metabolism slow down if I’m on a very low calorie regime?
When calories are cut back significantly the body will store the fat and then the metabolism will lower. As a result the fat is then used as energy. It is quite a natural process and has no negative effect to the body.
5. Wouldn’t I lose the same amount of weight eating a very low calorie regime without HCG?
Typically yes you would, however the HCG drops support the strength of muscle tissue while your body intakes 500 calories per day. In normal circumstances (without HCG) the muscle would go first, then the fat would follow. The homeopathic drops help to produce hormones to sustain muscle and use the fat as energy instead. A low calorie regime without homeopathic drops would result in making it easier to gain the weight back rather than sustaining it.
6. The HCG regime is very low calorie, will I get hungry?
Surprisingly no, this is one of the few regimes that don’t leave you craving more food. The reason is because your calories are normally the source of your energy and when they are all used up you felt hungry. When you are taking HCG your body can turn to the fat as a source of energy and therfore suppresses your appetite.
7. Will HCG interfere with any medications I am currently taking? What about birth control pills or Depo-Provera injections?
HCG does not interfere with any medications whatsoever, including birth control, or any prescription drugs. We have had clients with many combinations of medical drugs go through the process successfully.
8. Will I experience any changes in my menstrual cycle taking HCG?
The dosage is too small to change anything in the menstrual cycle, again, there are no side effects. Because it balances hormones, we often recommend NOT Neural Organisational Technique Endocrine Balancing after the HCG process.
9. How much weight can I expect to lose on the program?
The average comes to about 0.1-0.5kg (1lb) per day over an extended period of time. Some may lose up to 1kg (2 lbs) a day in their first week.
10. Does the weight loss slow down after the first month?
Yes, the largest amount of weight is lost in the first month. After the first 3-4 weeks some may experience a plateau effect where a day or two on the scales your weight doesn’t change. DO NOT PANIC this is normal, the body is currently losing inches and the spikes in the losses will start going down again.
Q: Can I complete the programme if I am a vegetarian or vegan? A Yes.
Q: Can I complete the programme if I am lactose intolerant? A: Yes.
Q: How much salt would you recommend using?
A: There is no restriction on the use of salt. On the other hand, an increase in salt can be one of the most common causes for inconsistencies in weight loss, due to water retention.
Q: The diet states that tap water is not preferred. Why?
A: Tap water contains chlorine, which affects the thyroid.
Q: Why do I “gorge” for the first 2 days of the protocol?
A: It takes 2 -3 days for diet drops to completely enter your system; gorging also helps with hunger feelings while on the program, as well as building up structural and normal fat, as opposed to brown fat.
Q: What are the best foods on which to gorge?
A: High fat calorie foods such as full fat dairy products, nuts, oils, avocados, etc.
Q: I’m not sure how many vegetables I should be eating during Phase 2.
A: You can eat as many vegetables as you want during Phase 2 as long as it remains within the 500 caloric limit. Here is a suggestion on how to measure this: Weigh out the 100 grams of protein (approximately 100 calories), then add your vegetables, apple (55-110 calories), melba toast/grissini (20 calories) for the meal. Weigh out the vegetables and use a calorie counter to make sure you don’t go over the 500 calorie limit. The size of the portions will vary with each type of vegetable, so use a calorie counter and a scale and you should do fine. An average serving size of spinach only contains 7 calories, for instance, while a 4-inch long strip of celery contains about 1 calorie. Here is a calorie counter that may be helpful for you http://caloriecount.about.com/ .
Q: Are frozen veggies okay instead of fresh?
A: Fresh organic vegetables are preferred, but frozen vegetables will work.
Q: May I eat pickles with any meal on the diet?
A: Cucumbers and vinegar are on the protocol so pickles are permitted. If you find that you are not losing weight, stop eating the pickles.
Q: What can I eat while I’m completing the program?
A: The complete diet is covered in the manual available from New Leaf Natural Therapies.
Q: Won’t I starve if I only consume 500 calories per day?
A: No. Because our drops releases your fat reserves, your body begins to “consume” the fat, which acts as a source of energy in place of food. In essence, you burn up to one pound of fat each day (one pound is 3,500 calories). Therefore, your total consumption each day will be about 4,000 calories – 500 from food and 3,500 from fat. That is why most patients do not experience extreme hunger while using our drops.
Q: I am still hungry, what can I do?
A: First of all, did you do the loading days properly. Eating as many high fat foods as you could for 2 days is the best preparation for managing possible hunger. If you are genuinely hungry and it is not part of a compulsive eating pattern suggestions include:
ü Ensure adequate hydration, hunger is often a misinterpretation of thirst. Drink 8 glasses of water and additional Yerbe Mate tea, etc per day.
ü Add fibre such as psyllium hulls. 1 – 2 tablespoons in 8 oz of water 6-8 x per day. These are also available in tablet form but if you don’t like psyllium, take a natural and gentle fibre alternative. Slippery Elm capsules (available from New Leaf) can also help.
ü Use Resist X (Metagenics product available at New Leaf): This helps to curb hunger, increase energy and speeds up fat metabolism. Contains Korean ginseng, chromium and other nutrients.
ü Vitamin D capsules/drops (from New Leaf) will help curb hunger at 2-5000iu daily.
ü Follow the soup recipes on the disc and spread your meals throughout the day.
ü Basically consider spreading your meals throughout the day. Basically consider the food programme as having a set number of pieces on a chess board. You can move a piece any way your want, as long as you don’t add new pieces to the board or eat more than one of any type at one time.
ü Use miracle noodles available at New Leaf. Permitted on Phase 2 and Phase 3.
Q: I’m experiencing food cravings.
A: If you have been on a high sugar, alcohol or gluten diet for some time, it is possible that you will experience food cravings during the program but these usually pass within a few days. Rest assured that once you finish the program, you will be amazed at how little you want these types of foods any more.
Q: I’m hungry!
A: You shouldn’t be experiencing hunger pains on this program if you are following it properly so this is something that should be easily fixed. Firstly, did you load up properly on the force feed days? If you did not then the hunger will gradually diminish, but the situation reinforces the need to use the first two days as stated by Dr Simeons and prepare properly for the shifts in your body’s metabolism. We next need to ensure that you are taking the correct amount of drops (10 drops x 3 times per day) then ensure that you are eating enough vegetables. 9 times out of 10 when people experience hunger pains, it is because they are not eating enough vegetables. Generously increase your listed vegetable intake for lunch and dinner and see how this affects your hunger pains. Have a read of the section on vegetables in Part 2 of this manual for further information. You may also wish to try drinking Green Tea, taking psyllium husks in water (4-6 glasses a day) or adding chromium and/or Vitamin D3 supplements to your diet. Miracle Noodles can also be a great and delicious way to get your fibre without calories during the program.
Q: Will I lose exactly one pound every day while on the program?
A: No. Most clients on the 23-day program will have lost about 6-10 kilos (there are 2.2 pounds in a kilogram); however, the weight loss does not always happen evenly over 23-day period. Some patients may notice a plateau or a span of a few days where little to no weight loss occurs. Some patients often notice quick weight loss after a plateau period.
Q: If I live afar, how do I participate in the program?
A: Distant clients will need to complete get the manual and drops via mail, and we offer telephone consultations.
Q: Can I complete the protocol if I am nursing a baby?
A: No, when you are nursing you produce prolactin, which interferes with our drops.
Q: How should I store my diet drops?
A: Homoeopathic remedies don’t need to be stored in the refrigerator but you will need to keep them away from electronic devices such as microwaves, mobile phones and computers. You should also keep them out of direct sunlight and below 30° Celsius.
Q: What makeup can I use during the protocol?
A: You can use Makeup that does not include fats, oils, creams and ointments. Lipstick is allowed.
Q: Can I use mineral oils?
A: Yes, you can use mineral oils externally as a moisturizer if you must. However, because there is little nutritional value, do not use mineral oil to cook.
Q: What lip products can I use? A: Lipstick is permitted.
Q: Can I use a Chap Stick?
A: Only if it is a wax product and it doesn’t penetrate the skin. You will need to be selective with the brand and watchful of your results.
Q: What deodorant can I use?
A: You can use Crystal deodorant, which can be found at health food stores.
Q: What lotion and makeup can I use? A: Oil free lotions. See list at the bottom.
Q: Are shampoos, conditioners, and styling products okay?
A: Yes, as long as they are rinsed out immediately.
Q: Can I colour my hair while I’m completing the program? A: No.
Q: My weight loss appears to have slowed down or stopped. What do I do?
A: Don’t panic! If your weight loss has slowed down or stopped, this usually means you have hit a plateau. This is more common in women than men and is a totally normal part of the program. You will most likely find that your weight will remain unchanged for a few days and then the weight loss will resume. It would be a good idea to read the relevant section in “Pounds and Inches ” or in the section in this manual under Key Points from Pounds and Inches which will help explain what is happening to your body during this time. Read about an ‘apple day’.
Q: I’ve cheated and my weight loss appears to have stalled. What do I do?
A: Cheating always has a price on this program! Depending on how much you cheated, it may take several days for your weight loss to return. Stick with the diet drops and 500 calories until your weight loss returns to normal levels. Note that doing strenuous exercise to offset the cheating is actually counterproductive on this program. It won’t help you lose additional weight but will put stress on your body.
Q: I’m in Phase 3 and I have gained more than 2 pounds from my finishing weight.
A: First and foremost you need to read the section about Skipping a Meal in “Pounds and Inches” which requires you to do a Steak Day or a high protein day on the day your recorded the weight gain. However, if this pattern keeps repeating and you are not deviating from the Phase 3 eating plan, then it is possible that you are having a reaction to some of the foods you are reintroducing into your diet. If you have a dairy or nut intolerance this can cause inflammation and seeming weight gain where in fact it is actually water retention. You would need to go back and check some of the foods you have been eating and remove them to try and ascertain the culprit and then eliminate the problem.
Q: I don’t like skipping breakfast. Can I switch one of my meals to breakfast and skip a meal later in the day?
A: While it is preferable to follow the protocol as prescribed by Dr Simeons, if you would prefer to eat breakfast and skip lunch or dinner then this is okay. As long as you don’t increase your overall caloric intake above 500 calories you will still lose weight.
Q: Do I need to eat organic food during the program?
A: While it is highly recommended to eat organic food during the program we accept that organic foods can be difficult to find and often expensive. If you are able to find organic products then this will certainly support the success of the program but it is not a critical component.
Q: Is it okay to exercise during the program?
A: It is acceptable to do mild exercise during Phase 2 such as walking or swimming, and slightly more strenuous exercise during Phase 3. Of course you should track how this may affect your energy levels and subsequent weight loss. Note that doing strenuous exercise, especially during phase 2, adds stress to the body and can be counterproductive on this program. It won’t help you lose weight and may in fact stall it so best to keep to mild exercise until the program is complete.
Q: What happens if I get my period during the drops phase?
A: You should stop the drops during your menstruation but continue with the 500 calorie Very Low Carb Diet until your period finishes. You should then start up on the drops at the end of your period and add the amount of days you stopped the drops onto the end of your program. For instance, if you get your period on day 12 and it lasts for 5 days, you should stop the drops for days 12 to 17 and add an additional 5 days on after day 23 of the program to 28 days.
Q: When is the best time to start the program?
A: For women, the best time to start is on the first day that your period finishes. This means that you will most likely avoid having to stop the drops during the program.
Q: I want to do another course of the program. How long do I have to wait to start?
A: If you have completed the full 6 week or 12 week program including the relevant maintenance phases, then you can start another course of our drops straight away.
Q: Can I drink alcohol on this program?
A: Alcohol is strictly forbidden during Phase 2 of the program. Dr Simeons suggests that a small glass of red wine during Phase 3 is acceptable but you need to remember that wine contains sugar so you will need to closely monitor your weight changes the following day and do a steak day if necessary.
Q: I’m at day 23 of Phase 2 and am doing so well that I want to do the 40 day program. Can I do this?
A: Yes this is very common. If you wish to continue your program to 40 days you should maintain the VLCD and drops for a further 17 days then follow the steps outline in Part 2 of this manual.
Q: Can I do more than 23 days but less than 40 days on Phase 2?
A: Yes you can. You just need to ensure that you spend the equivalent amount of time on Phase 3 ” Maintenance Phase. For instance, if you do the HCG Phase 2 for 30 days, you will need to do Phase 3 Maintenance for 30 days.
Q: Will the lotions and diaper creams I put on my children have an effect on me, even if I wash my hands immediately after applying?
A: The lotions and creams can have a small effect. We recommend you wear gloves to prevent penetration of any lotions or creams.
Q: Can I go tanning while I am on the program? A: Yes, but do not use tanning lotion or oil.
Q: Can I still complete the program if I’ve had a hysterectomy? A: Yes.
Q: How does a diabetic benefit from the program?
A: When a diabetic follows the protocol our diet drops naturally stabilises the blood sugar. We often see an overall drop in fasting blood sugar after completing the program.
Q: Can I still take my medications while on program?
A: Yes, as long as the medications do not interfere with the endocrine system. This needs to be reviewed on a case-by- case basis. Any cessation of medications will need to be discussed with your doctor prior to beginning the program.
Q: Should I stop my pharmaceutical medications while I am on the program?
A: You should never stop your medications unless advised by your Doctor. If you have specific concerns about certain medications when used in conjunction with our diet drops, you should contact us directly.
Q: Should I stop taking my vitamin supplements while taking the diet drops?
A: You should try and not take your normal vitamins while doing Phase 2 of the program. You will find that through the fat loss, your body will be recycling vitamins and minerals previously stored in your fat for re- use. In some cases, vitamins may interfere with weight loss especially if they contain hidden sugars. You can resume your vitamin intake during Phase 3 of the program. The one exception to this rule is digestive enzymes and probiotics which will assist your digestion during the program and are recommended. Refer to the section in “Pounds and Inches” for further details or in Part 3 of this manual.
Q: How does the program affect cholesterol levels?
A: We have seen cholesterol levels fluctuate while on the program. For the majority of patients the cholesterol levels drop and improve.
Q: Can I continue using my hormone medications?
A: All medications that interfere with the endocrine system should be avoided during the program. This can be discussed during a consultation with one of our Naturopathic professionals.
Q: Will I be able to stop using my anti-diabetes medications after I complete the program?
A: While discontinuance of diabetes medication is possible, it should not be expected as a result of the protocol. Often it depends on how long you’ve been diabetic, how many medications you are currently using, your fasting blood sugar levels, your blood sugar range, etc.
Q: Will the program help my high blood pressure?
A: Many patients have experienced a decrease in blood pressure. Some patients have been able to stop taking their medications, but this should not be done without medical advice.
Q: Can I continue using my anti-depressant medications? A: Yes.
Q: Can I continue using my anxiety medications? A: Yes
Q: Why does the program interfere with Gout?
A: The diet drops increases uric acid levels which may aggravate the condition. Support is available to minimise this potential
Q: If I don’t have a regular menstrual cycle will the diet drops affect that?
A: Some patients have experienced changes in their menstrual cycle while on the diet drops. These irregularities are resolved with the completion of the program.
Q: Should I run and exercise while completing the protocol?
A: We do not recommend strenuous exercise while completing the protocol. However, we do recommend walking and other light exercise.
Q: Why do I need to discontinue using thyroid while completing the program?
A: The hypothalamus gland, affected by our diet drops, also controls the thyroid. Taking additional thyroid could cause hyperthyroidism.
Q: When women are on their menstrual cycle, why can’t they receive the homoeopathic dosings?
A: Women who are menstruating produce a small amount of substance like our diet drops.
Q: Will I be hungry if I don’t take the homoeopathic dosing while on my period?
A: This varies; some women report they are hungrier when on their menstrual cycle and not dosing, and many report that they are unaffected.
Q: What should I do if I get constipated? A: Increase your water intake, and fibre such as ground psyllium hulls. Quality herbal teas including liquorice tea may also assist.
Q: What are the negative side effects of the program?
A: Fortunately, very few negative side effects have been noticed or reported. The most frequent complaint we receive from patients is hunger, but that is usually due to poor preparation and loading in the first two days.
Q: If I am really hungry while on the diet drops can I use an appetite suppressant? A: No, a better idea is to graze on vegetables throughout the day. Choose vegetables that are approved on the protocol as “unlimited.”
Q: Is cold medicine okay? A: Yes, as long as it does not contain sugar, starch or oils.
Q: My skin is really dry. What do you recommend?
A: This is quite a common event in the earlier stage of phase 2. If you find that your skin is dry, you may want to try applying organic coconut oil to your skin which should improve hydration during the program. However be very alert to any impact on the weight loss as there is always the risk of stalling. Coconut oil is appropriate and effective for some individuals but others end up in a fat loss plateau.
During the program, it is critical that you eliminate the intake of oils, which includes oils applied externally in the form of lotions, cleansers, and cosmetics. The following products are advertised as oil free, but question the label:
Moisturisers and cosmetics

Deodorant Natural crystal deodorant sticks
Note – The following products / ingredients should be used with high caution:
lanolin, glycerin, petrolatum, petroleum jelly, mineral oil, beeswax. Many clients have used these products for the relief of symptoms of dry skin and chapped lips, without a negative effect on their weight loss. However, if you notice a slowing or drop off in your weight loss while using any of the above products, we recommend discontinuing use.
DOING FURTHER HCG COURSES
Those who need to lose more weight must have a second or even more courses. A second course can be started after an interval of not less than six weeks, though the pause can be more than six weeks. When a third, fourth or even fifth course is necessary, the interval between courses should be made progressively longer. Between a second and third course eight weeks should elapse, between a third and fourth course twelve weeks, between a fourth and fifth course twenty weeks and between a fifth and sixth course six months. In this way it is possible to bring about a weight reduction of 100 lbs and more if required without the least hardship to the patient.
