Tuina Massage – Robert Coombs at New Leaf Natural Therapies

Tuina Chinese Remedial MassageI know it’s always a challenge trying a new technique if you don’t know what it is.  I’ve had lots of massage over the past 22 years, but I didn’t know what to expect – TuiNa Chinese Remedial Massage is definitely a deep-tissue remedial massage.  I’ve had issues with my shoulders and neck and lower back problems for several years – feet problems forever (several big sprains 25 years ago) so I was curious as to how ‘specific’ the process was. This Chinese therapy makes use of rhythmic compression techniques along different energy channels of the body to establish harmonious flow of Qi throughout the body and bringing it back to balance. It works deeply with the positive energy of the body.Robert found and worked on all my sore spots – and some I didn’t know were there!  Obviously the trick to a great massage is communication with your massage therapist – make sure you chat about the strength on different parts of your body – you may be able to handle deep tissue on your spine, but not on your legs, for example.I would highly recommend TuiNa Chinese Remedial Massage and I’ll be booking again this week.  As Robert is also an acupuncturist, you can choose a longer session and have a combination of both!

About TuiNa Massage

Tui Na makes use of various hand techniques in combination with acupuncture and other manipulation techniques. Many of the techniques used in this massage resemble that of a western massage like gliding, kneading, vibration, tapping, friction, pulling, rolling, pressing and shaking. In Tui Na massage, the muscles and tendons are massaged with the help of hands, and an acupressure technique is applied to directly affect the flow of Qi at different acupressure points of the body, thus facilitating the healing process. It removes the blockages and keeps the energy moving through the meridians as well as the muscles.

This technique is very beneficial in reducing the pain of neck, shoulders, hips, back, arms, highs, legs and ankle disorders. It is a very effective therapy for arthritis, pain, sciatica and muscle spasms. Other benefits of this massage therapy include alleviation of the stress related disorders like insomnia, constipation, headaches and other disorders related to digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems.

The greatest advantage of Tui Na is that it focuses on maintaining overall balance with both physical and mental health. Any one who wants to avoid the side effects of drugs or a chemical based treatment can adopt this effective massage technique to alleviate their pain. Tui Na massage therapy is now becoming a more common therapy method due to its focus on specific problems rather than providing a general treatment.

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy (F.I.R.S.T.)

Far Infrared (F.I.R.) is a form of radiant heat that gently heats objects directly without heating the surrounding air, like traditional saunas.  Traditional saunas use steam and hot air to heat up the external environment whereas the F.I.R. Saunas heat is a softer and gentler penetrating the skin upto 4 cm in depth thus having an effect on the deep skin layers. As a result blood circulation is increased to the skin cells and increasing repair of damaged capillaries. With an increase of blood supply to the area there is an increase of oxygen and nutrients delivered to the cells and waste products from the cells are carried out creating an overall improvement of skin cell function.

F.I.R. Saunas also has positive results with skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis, eczema and general lumps and bumps. The increase in circulation helps to clear blocked pores, release the deeply embedded unwanted debris and infection. Thus as a consequence the sebaceous glands shrink as the skin system is working more efficiently.

F.I.R. Saunas activates adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in the skin cells. ATP is the major source of energy for each cell to function. Therefore the more ATP each cell makes allows for the uptake of nutrients and dumping of the waste products out for clearing faster and more effectively. That is, ATP fuels processes within the cells that kill bacteria. Combined with the increase of circulation supports skin repair and recovery from skin disorders such as acne, cystic acne, boils, skin infections and rough dull skin.

F.I.R. Saunas also assist detoxification processes around the body. the toxins in the blood which are usually processed by the liver or kidneys are released through the sweat and out of the body by the increase of circulation. This decreases the impact on the kidneys and liver which frees them up to bereplenished (particularly the liver as it can regenerate itself).

Furthermore F.I.R. Saunas support immunity. With the increase in circulation the body is heated up thus creating an artificial fever which in turn promotes a natural healing response and helps the body to combat any viral or bacterial infections.

In combination with massage F.I.R. Saunas can be beneficial for both detoxification and deep tissue massage. That is, a massage followed by a F.I.R. Saunas will further to support he detoxification processes which have started in the massage. Where is a F.I.R. Saunas followed by a massage will increase the circulation thus allowing the depth of the massage to be more thorough.

Remedial massage – have you tried cupping? hot stone? musculo-skeletal therapies?

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Our fully qualified, caring and fun Musculo-Skeletal therapist Ms Katherine Lynn has experience and training in many areas: cupping techniques, hot stone massage, kinesiology training in addition to the extensive musculo-skeletal therapy training.

Have you ever tried remedial massage cupping techniques?  I was in China recently and met a man who has a ‘cupping massage’ once per month.  He does a lot of travel in air-conditioned buses, and finds that once per month have a ‘cupping massage’ improves his muscular tension and pain hugely.  His idea was that the cupping techniques help to remove the built up ‘cold air/wind energy’ in his muscles and allow heat to flow again.

Regardless of how it works, cupping techniques have great health benefits for muscular pain.  Give it a try sometime!

And now, have you tried hot stone massage??  Mmmmm, Katherine does the most fantastic hot stone massage which blisses you out and destresses to the max!  Hot Stone Massage is a beautiful relaxing type of massage, and utilises both moving and stationery hot stones in order to relax the body to the full.

So give us a call – if you’re in pain, if you need some TLC and relaxation or if you’ve just been looking for a fantastic clinic to look after your healthcare needs!

Remedial Massage in Wynnum, Brisbane. Benefits of Regular Remedial Massage

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Current Bonus:  30% off your initial massage – mention this website!!  Our beautiful natural therapies clinic in Wynnum, Brisbane, has a fantastic remedial massage team.  We also have Reiki sessions available with Gabby Graham.

Remedial Massage is very different today than it was 30 years ago.  Today is becoming more and more recognised as a way of repairing muscles and tendons:  these can be damaged through many problems in daily life – the product of overuse, trauma or bad posture.

Remedial massage involves a number of applied techniques involving deep pressure, trigger points released and longitudinal strokes on shortened and tight muscles to allow proper function and restore muscle strength.

Remedial Massage Technique: It uses several specialised techniques to locate and repair damage and to support and speed up the body’s own repair mechanisms. The massage is applied directly to the skin using a lubricating medium, usually oil, which ensures that the muscles associated with the disorder and mobilisation of the joint are deeply penetrated. Passive stretching moves are also used.

Benefits of Remedial Massage

Key benefits of Remedial Massage include: the stimulation to the blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed; the calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort; and the toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility. An improvement to the health of the cells, the repairing of tissues, and the easing of stiffness and tension can also be experienced through therapeutic relaxation.

Muscular and skeletal dysfunctions often addressed with Remedial Massage include Fibrositis, Spondylitis, Arthritis, frozen shoulder, muscular cramps, Whiplash, muscular atrophy, sports and dancing injuries.

Ring and ask about our specials – we often have great bonuses available for first time clients!
